Phonics

At Ashcott School we follow the guidance in the 'Letters and Sounds' document published by the DfE.  To support this approach we use a variety of resources and materials which we feel work well with the children in our cohort. There are lots of resources and games on the Espresso website - click here (a log-in can be obtained from the school office if you don't already have one). Please read the handout from the parents' phonics evening.

We are very proud of our consistent, effective phonics teaching at Ashcott school for the past 3 years, with 100% of children who completed their Reception year and Year 1 with us, exceeding the threshold in the phonics check at the end of Year 1.
