Children's Parliament 2019

In April, five children from Owl Class took part in the Somerset Children's Parliament held at the Council Chamber, Shire Hall, Taunton.  The Ashcott Parliament Team had chosen a theme for their project, focusing on how much time we spend on screens and how this affects our everyday lives.  They did some research on the internet, carried out a survey of the children at school and then organised a whole school event called 'Tech-Free Tuesday' where they asked all children and parents to spend a day without using any screens.  A feedback form was sent home to parents to gather information about how Tech-Free Tuesday went.  The results were then used in their presentation at the Children's Parliament.

We are very proud of the children who took part as they were fantastic ambassadors for the school and they managed to come in second place in the competition, with a confident presentation!  The event was even attended by our local MP, Ian Liddell-Grainger, and our children had the opportunity to ask him questions.
